Wondering if
IPL Is Right for You?
IPL Treatment for Rosacea
Rosacea is a chronic skin condition characterized by facial redness and swollen blood vessels, most commonly found on the nose and cheeks, that can be accompanied by burning or itching feeling. Dr. Khan will treat the symptoms of rosacea in several ways, and Intense Pulsed Light therapy is essential to the treatment process. IPL is very effective at targeting and removing the redness and broken blood vessels associated with rosacea.
IPL Treatment for Age Spots and Sun Damage
Over time, exposure to the sun can cause visible damage to your skin in a process called “photoaging,” which occurs when ultraviolet radiation causes DNA changes in the skin. This leads to symptoms such as age spots, liver spots, rough and uneven textured skin, broken capillaries, and blotchy redness. Intense Pulsed Light, also often referred to as a “photofacial,” can reverse the visible effects of photoaging on your skin. A photofacial uses different wavelengths of light to target the second layer of your skin, known as the dermis. The melanin in your skin transforms the light energy into heat, which then destroys the pigmentation caused by photoaging, clearing your skin.

Frequently Asked Questions
IPL laser treatments are an advanced light-based energy treatment that can accomplish a variety of skin-related tasks. Broadly speaking, this treatment is used for skin rejuvenation, which means the core purpose of this treatment is to help restore a brighter, firmer, and more youthful appearance to your skin. As it is, this treatment can be used in a variety of ways for virtually every area of the face and even some smaller body areas.
There is no minimum or maximum age for IPL treatment.
You will meet Dr. Khan and he will determine if you are a good candidate for IPL treatment. The doctor will want to know about your medical history, examine your skin, and discuss why you are considering IPL. Then, the doctor will explain to you what can and cannot be treated with IPL. You may be asked to have a spot test done to see if your skin reacts well to IPL. The doctor will also advise you on about how many treatments will be needed to achieve your goal.
The technician or doctor will determine if you need a topical anesthetic on the area to be treated. After the treatment area is numb, a gel will be applied and a glass prism will then be placed over the gel and treatment area. An intense flash of light, or pulse, is beamed through the prism to the treatment area.
Unlike laser resurfacing or other skin resurfacing procedures, there is no real downtime with IPL. Your skin may be slightly pink or red right after your treatment, and you may experience mild swelling that should subside in a few days.
The sensation during IPL treatment ranges from warmth to something like the sting of a rubber band snapping against your skin.
You should see results after one or two treatments. Your doctor will be able to predict how many treatments you’ll need for best results.
Although rare, blistering and/or slight bleeding are possible, as are hypopigmentation or hyperpigmentation (lightened or darkened areas of skin, respectively). Scarring is also possible, but rare.
Depending on your habits (sun exposure, skin care, use of sunblock, etc.), hyperpigmentation problems may be permanently eradicated with IPL. Your skin will continue to age, but IPL treatment resets the clock so you look younger longer. Dr. Khan should be able to estimate how long the effects of IPL will last in your individual case.
