What is medical laser hair removal?
Whether you want to rid yourself of annoying excess body hair or simply want to achieve clear skin, then the laser hair removal Sydney and Miranda residents can turn to can be found here.
We treat clients from Sydney and the surrounding communities of Sutherland Shire. Our facility is equipped with the equipment to accommodate your needs and promises to provide you with the silky smooth skin you so desire.
We work on the premise that all clients deserve to feel unique, and so cater our treatments with your desired outcomes in mind. Contact us at your earliest convenience to discuss the endless possibilities our laser hair removal treatment can bring to you.
Medical laser hair removal is the destruction of hair follicles utilising laser energy to treat large areas quickly unlike ‘follicle by follicle’ treatments such as electrolysis. Our laser skin treatments will give permanent results, leaving you feeling fresh and smooth without the hindrance of stubble or ingrown hairs.
Ideal candidates for laser hair removal
Laser hair removal, unlike cosmetic injectable treatments, is unfortunately not suitable for everyone. There are a number of factors that define whether you are a suitable candidate or not. You can schedule a free consultation to find out more about the requirements of an ideal candidature, or check out the list below:
- Skin and hair type – This treatment works best for those who have fair skin and coarse, dark hair. This is because the laser technology focuses primarily on melanin (a hair pigment that causes darker hair). It is more difficult for the laser to target finer hair, making it harder to get good results for those with fair skin.
- The site of treatment – Larger treatment areas make the best candidates, such as the arms, back, chest, and legs.
- Set realistic expectations – Your hair will not naturally disappear overnight following our procedure. For most cases, multiple sessions are required to elicit a complete effect. The number of sessions will vary according to your ideal outcomes and goals.
What areas can be treated?
Laser treatment can be applied to a number of areas depending on your individual characteristics.
For hair-free skin, our medical-grade lasers can treat the following areas:
- Lips
- Chin
- Face
- Earlobes
- Shoulders
- Back
- Neck
- Underarm
- Abdomen
- Buttocks
- Chest
- Pubic area
- Bikini line
- Legs
- Arms
- Hands
- Feet
- Toes
- Between the eyebrows
What types of lasers are used for hair removal?
There are many lights or laser-based hair removal machines available today. One of the earliest lasers was a Ruby Laser. The Ruby was a very effective laser, however was unable to treat any darker skin tones. The Lightsheer Diode Laser has been designed to safely and effectively treat all skin types – from very fair skin (Type I) through to very dark skin (Type IV).
Why use the light sheer diode laser over other hair removal systems?
The Lightsheer Diode Laser has been considered to be the gold standard in hair removal lasering for many years. The Lightsheer Diode Laser is designed specifically for hair removal. We have chosen this laser because of the extensive clinical research undertaken that demonstrates its effectiveness for permanent hair reduction. It was granted FDA and TGA approval many years ago.
In our twenty years of experience, we have found the Lightsheer Diode Laser to be more effective and safer than IPL for permanent hair reduction. The Lightsheer Diode Laser can be used at higher energy levels safely because of its wavelength (810nm). It has been proven that high energy levels help determine the long-term outcome for permanent hair reduction.
How does the laser hair removal treatment work?
The near-infrared laser light emitted by the Diode laser is preferentially absorbed by the pigment located in the hair follicle. The laser is pulsed for only a fraction of a second (usually 30 milliseconds). The duration of each pulse is just long enough to damage the follicle, whilst the laser’s unique contact cooling handpiece helps protect the skin with conductive cooling during the energy delivery to the follicle.
The diode laser has a wavelength of 810nm. and has a 9mm square spot size. At Shire Aesthetics And Vein Clinic, we also use a Zimmer Cryo 5 Cooler to aid in the cooling and safety of the skin. The choice of laser will ultimately depend on your skin and hair type.
First consultation
Your first free consultation with our experts is essential in determining the sites you wish to be treated to, what your desired goals are, and allows us to examine your hair follicles and areas of hair growth to determine the appropriate laser to use.
Once the consultation is complete, we will designate a number of pre-procedure instructions for you to follow before your treatment.
Day of the treatment
As you arrive at our laser clinic for your treatment, you will be met by our wonderful front-of-house team. You will then be escorted to your doctor’s consultation room and be prepared for your treatment. We will instruct you on what you will experience during your treatment, and answer any questions you may have.
Once the treatment is complete, you will be given a set of aftercare instructions to follow and be advised on a follow-up date for another session if applicable.
Recovery time
The total recovery time following a Sydney laser hair removal is around 1 to 2 days. Patients may experience some mild redness or swelling on the site of treatment for a couple of days which should resolve with no complications.
What kind of results can I expect?
Laser hair treatments elicit their full results gradually over time. Once all of your dedicated sessions are complete, you will either experience absolutely zero hair growth, or the growth of very fine, light hairs that are virtually invisible to the eye.
How much does laser hair removal cost in Sydney?
The total cost of laser hair removal in Sydney varies amongst individuals. Although your initial consultation is free, there will be a number of factors that contribute to the final cost. A full breakdown of the cost of your treatment will be given to you following a full medical and physical examination and will include:
- The cost of treatment per session
- The cost of your doctor’s time
- The cost of any aftercare supplies

FAQs
If you still have some unanswered questions regarding laser treatments, then check out the section below:
Are there any side effects?
As with any medical treatment, there can be some side effects to the laser hair removal Miranda patients can access here. However, side effects are usually minor and manageable.
Redness of the skin and mild swelling can be non-existent or last for an hour to 24 hrs.
In rare instances, the redness may last for a few days and there could be some grazing or scabbing that resolves over a short period of time. This is very rare. As with all laser treatments, it is important not to be tanned so these side effects can be minimised or avoided.
Is it painful?
Some discomfort is experienced during the procedure as is common with the majority of hair removal treatments i.e. waxing and electrolysis.
The Lightsheer Diode System is fast, which reduces the treatment time. It provides long-lasting hair removal, reducing the need for repeated treatments. The ChillTip cooling lens helps reduce discomfort while protecting the skin surface from thermal injury during the delivery of the pulse light. If large or sensitive areas of unwanted hair are to be treated, a topical anaesthetic cream may be applied to the site to further reduce discomfort.
Do I need to grow my hair before consultation or treatment?
No, in fact, the area needs to be shaved prior to treatments. We are actually targeting the anatomical structures below the skin. Surface hair interferes with this process.
You may use depilatory creams, bleaching or cutting the hair if you prefer. We ask that you don’t pluck or wax for a week to three weeks prior to the treatment, depending on the treatment area.
How many treatments will I need?
Laser treatments target the hair follicle when it is in its active growing phase (anagen phase). Unfortunately, not all follicles will be in the anagen phase at any one time. Therefore, for permanent hair reduction, three to six treatments may be required to achieve the desired results.
Will it cure my ingrown hair?
Lightsheer Diode Laser will target the pigment in the ingrown hair follicle and give almost 100% relief from this distressing problem.
Are the results permanent?
Results vary depending on skin and hair type. Studies have shown that many patients can achieve permanent hair loss of up to 85-90% of the hair with the remaining hair returning lighter and softer.
Female patients suffering from hormonal facial hair may need maintenance treatments from time to time. You will be advised during your consultation if this is applicable in your situation.
Can anyone be treated?
Yes, except those taking Roacuttane (acne medication) need to wait until 6 months after ceasing their medication.
Can I get laser hair removal if I have a tattoo?
It is safe to get laser treatment if you have a tattoo, given that the area you wish to be treated is not tattooed. This is because the laser may absorb all elements of dark pigmentation and start to fade your artwork.
Is it safe to get laser hair removal if I'm pregnant or breastfeeding?
Treatment of pregnant females is possible, but we prefer to wait until after the birth of your baby. If treatment is clinically indicated during your pregnancy, this will be discussed individually.
Can I get laser hair removal if I have dark skin?
There are certain lasers such as the Nd: YAG Laser which are suitable for dark skin.
Can I get laser hair removal if I have blonde hair?
There are certain lasers available to be used on blonde hair. A thorough consultation with our experts will help determine if you are a suitable candidate.
How should I prepare for my treatment?
To prepare for your treatment, you should:
- Avoid tanning or using sunbeds
- Refrain from plucking or waxing your hair
- Shave the area to be treated 24 hours before your appointment
Can I sit out in the sun straight after my treatment?
We recommend that you avoid exposure to direct sunlight for 2-3 weeks following your treatment. If you have been exposed to the sun, you should use SPF 50+ to the area.
Is there a recommended age?
We recommend that clients be aged over 18 before getting their treatment. This is because hair follicles might not have fully developed prior to being 18.
